β€œI pretended like it was no big deal” πŸ‘ŒπŸ˜…πŸ‘

Speaking of the end of childhood, have you read Childhoods End? I just listened to it a few months ago and would highly recommend. Kind of a fun fractal version of a coming of age narrative, told at species scale

Nice. I remember that movie too. I enjoyed it, but don’t think I ever watched it again. Adam sounds like a good friend😜

I might have to watch it again, since I don't recall more than one or two scenes.

That's a charming story, Ryan. I'm curious what Adam's reaction was in the moment during said 'sniper attack'? I was expecting you to say that he hit the deck and provided cover fire for you to advance inside the house. Was he dumbfounded?

This reminds me of a similarly silly coming-of-age story. In my early teens, I was at my family cabin with extended family. My cousin, who is about my age, had just returned from summer camp. As the whole family was getting into cars to go out for dinner, my cousin decided to be spontaneous and yell, 'Water fight!' She proceeded to spray me with the garden hose until I was drenched.

The whole family stood there with dumbfounded looks on their faces. I stood there soaking wet and shocked. My cousin realized that her crazy act of fun was not well received, and she burst out crying.

I've thought about that moment many times over the years. I'm sure she was still in 'crazy summer camp' mode, and thought she'd take me off guard in front of the fam. She succeeded in taking me off guard. I just wish I would have rolled with the punches a bit more that day.

Perhaps I should have hit the deck and provided water cover. : )

Great anecdote! There are many times in my life I've been on both sides of those scenarios.

You'd have to ask Adam. It know it left a mark, because he brings it up every time we see each other!
